Magic Earth is Suggesting Wrong Turns
If Magic Earth suggests a maneuver that is legally restricted, physically impossible, or unsuitable for your vehicle, this is typically due to specific navigation settings or issues with the map data. To ensure safe and accurate guidance, please follow the verification steps below.
Check Your Route Settings:
Magic Earth calculates routes based on the specific constraints of your active profile. If your settings do not align with your current vehicle or preferences, the suggested path may be suboptimal.
- Verify Active Profile: Confirm that you are using the correct transport mode (e.g., Car, Bicycle, Pedestrian, or Truck) for your current journey. Each profile has different routing algorithms and restrictions.
- Review Avoidance Criteria: Within your profile settings from Settings > General > Navigation, check the avoidance section and ensure that you have not inadvertently enabled settings that could lead to illegal or impossible turns. Adjust these settings according to your preferences and current needs.
- Dimensional Constraints: If utilizing a heavy vehicle profile, verify that your height, weight, and width parameters are accurate. Incorrect data here will result in the app failing to filter out restricted bridges or narrow passages.
Map Data Issues:
Magic Earth utilizes OpenStreetMap (OSM), a global, collaborative geographic database maintained by a community of over 10 million contributors. While OSM is remarkably detailed, the real world changes rapidly. New one-way designations, construction, or revised turn restrictions may not be reflected immediately. Once a correction is made in the OSM database by a volunteer, it must be processed and integrated into Magic Earth. These changes become active during our regular map updates. To ensure you have the latest data, go to Settings > Check for Updates and make sure you are using the most recent version of the app and maps.
Reporting Issues:
If your settings are correct and you encounter a persistent routing failure, our team can check the map data. Please contact support@magicearth.com with the following details:
- Route Parameters: Provide the exact Start, Destination, and any intermediary waypoints. Also tell us which profile you are using (e.g., Car, Bicycle, Pedestrian, Truck).
- Problem Description: Specify the exact location of the error (GPS coordinates or street names) and explain why the maneuver is incorrect (e.g., "Permanent 'No Left Turn' sign installed since 2024"). A screenshot of the map with the incorrect instruction highlighted can be very helpful.
- Current Route Settings: Please attach a screenshot of the calculated route and a screenshot of your navigation profile settings.
- Corrective Guidance: If known, please describe the correct path or legal maneuver that should be taken instead.
Always prioritize real-world road signs and local traffic laws over application instructions.
