Summary

Magic Earth stores your personal data locally on your device and offers cloud backup options to improve convenience and data safety.

Activities

Activities are currently stored only locally on your device.

In the future, Magic Earth will offer the ability to upload activities to your Magic Earth account, enabling synchronization and backup across devices.

Favourites, Route History, and Recents

Favourites, Route History, and Recents can be backed up using the following method:

    I. iCloud Backup (iOS only)

1. Open Settings → Advanced Settings.
2. Enable Cloud Backups.
3. Ensure that Magic Earth has permission to store data in iCloud.
   
   

II. You can also export or share data manually (for example, Favourites) directly from their respective screens using the Share button.

Importing and Exporting Favourites

Exporting All Favourites

To export your entire Favourites list:

1. Open the Search page.
2. Navigate to the Favourites tab.
3. Tap the page title.
4. Select Share.
5. Choose a location to save the .XML file or select an app to share it with.

Importing All Favourites

To import a favourites list:

1. Open the .XML file using your device's File Explorer.
2. When prompted to choose an app, select Magic Earth.

Sharing a Single Favourite

To share a single Favourite location:

1. Open the Favourites page.
2. Swipe horizontally on the desired item.
3. Tap the Share icon.

The location will be shared as a link. Opening the link launches Magic Earth and highlights the map on that location.

Importing and Exporting Route History

Exporting All Route History

To export the entire Route History:

1. Open the History page.
2. Tap the page title.
3. Select Send.
4. Choose where to save the Trips.db file or select an app to share it with.

Importing Route History

To import route history:

1. Open the Trips.db file from your device's File Explorer.
2. Select Magic Earth when prompted to choose an application.

Sharing a Single Route

To share a specific route from your history:

1. Swipe horizontally on the route entry.
2. Tap Share.

The route will be exported as a .trip file, which can be opened from a file explorer using Magic Earth.

Suggestions and Best Practices

• Exported data can be re-imported into Magic Earth at any time.
• To minimize the risk of data loss, enable automatic cloud backups whenever possible.
• If you plan to reinstall Magic Earth, export your data beforehand.
  Favourites and history cannot be recovered after reinstalling the app without a backup.
• Google Drive backups are not available on Android for privacy reasons.

Troubleshooting

• Compatibility issues may occur when opening a Trips.db file created on iOS on an Android device, and vice versa.
• Some file explorer apps may not suggest Magic Earth when opening exported files. If this happens, try using a different file explorer application.
