Summary:
You can customize how the map looks by choosing from four map style options and enabling or disabling elevation. Automatic mode adapts the map style according to your device theme or navigation conditions. On Android Auto and CarPlay, the map style depends on the Head-Unit settings, although CarPlay also supports following the phone’s map style if enabled in the app.

Steps:

To Access Map Styles:

1. Tap the Map Styles button located in the top-right corner of the screen.

2. The Map Styles panel will open with four options:

   • Automatic

   • Day

   • Night

   • Satellite

3. Below these options, use the Elevation toggle to enable or disable elevation shading.

How Each Style Works:

• Day / Night Modes:

  • The selected mode locks both the app theme and the map style to light (Day) or dark (Night).

• Automatic Mode (on the phone):

  • Outside navigation:

    • Follows your device theme:

      • Phone in light mode → Day map style + light theme

      • Phone in dark mode → Night map style + dark theme

  • During navigation:

    • Follows real-world conditions:

      • Daytime → Day mode

      • Nighttime → Night mode

      • In tunnels → Automatically switches to dark mode

Notes:

• You can include additional layers for Traffic, Speed Cameras & 3D buildings in Settings → General  → Map layers. 

• Android Auto:

  • The theme and map style do not follow the phone.

  • They are controlled entirely by the Head-Unit settings in your vehicle.

• CarPlay:

  • The theme and map style can be controlled by the Head-Unit settings.

  • Additionally, Magic Earth offers an in-app setting that allows CarPlay to follow the phone’s map style, if you prefer consistent styling across devices.
